Patron Saint of Children
St. Nicholas' feast day is December 6th. All over Europe children on the Eve of St. Nicholas Day leave their shoes outside their rooms with the expectation that St. Nicholas will visit and if they were good, he will leave a gift in their shoe. If they had been naughty, they received coal.
That tradition carried over to America and so today many families still have their children put out their shoe on December 5th, and in the morning they find a gift from St. Nicholas.
2022 St. Nicholas Christmas Event donations
All of the proceeds from this event, held on December 8, went to the Community Health and Literacy program.
The Community Health and Literacy program is a home-based family-centered program that sends trained mentors to visit families who have Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing children for two-hour weekly sessions during the school year to ensure they remain consistent with academic standards. The program prepares the family by teaching American Sign Language (ASL) to the child and family members and implementing ASL into their daily learning environments.
Why supporting our programs is so important
1.7 per 1,000 babies screened
in the United States have a
hearing loss according to the CDC.
90% of Deaf, DeafBlind, and
Hard of Hearing children
are born to hearing parents.
