PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Holley Institute offers programs that empower Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind individuals and their families. From language learning, to family connection, and community engagement, our programs create meaningful experiences for all ages.
Family Weeks
Each summer at Holley Family Village in Brooklyn, Michigan, four themed Family Weeks bring families together to learn, connect, and strengthen communication. While kids enjoy activities like outdoor adventures, ASL practice, and literacy games, parents and guardians take part in workshops on topics that help them support and raise a Deaf or Hard of Hearing child—all in a welcoming, community-focused setting.
American Sign Language Courses
Discover the beauty of American Sign Language with our beginner and intermediate classes taught by Deaf instructors. Our courses provide an immersive experience in ASL vocabulary, grammar, and Deaf culture, with sessions offered three times a year, January–March, April–May, and October–December. In-person classes are held at locations across Michigan, primarily in the Metro Detroit area, while online courses are open to anyone, anywhere—no Michigan residency required.
American Sign Language Immersion Weekend
Spend three days at Holley Family Village immersed in ASL in a supportive environment. We encourage participants to use ASL as much as possible during activities to create an authentic learning experience. This program is designed for individuals who want to build fluency through hands-on practice, cultural activities, and community connection. Participants are grouped into beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels to ensure personalized learning. Experience Deaf culture, interactive workshops, and real-world signing opportunities where learning goes beyond the classroom.

Community Health and Literacy Program (CHLP)
CHLP is a free, home-based program serving families across Michigan. During the school year, trained Deaf mentors visit families weekly to support Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing children in building language, literacy, and communication skills. Mentors work with children and caregivers to support accessible communication, early reading and writing, and language-rich home environments that promote academic and social development.
Family Literacy Weekend
Held twice a year in the spring and fall at Holley Family Village, this weekend program brings families together to strengthen language and literacy skills in a fun, interactive environment. Through hands-on activities, parent workshops, and family-focused learning, participants gain practical tools to support communication and academic success at home.
Rent the Village
The Holley Family Village is available for rent—ideal for board meetings, company retreats, workshops, and community events. Enjoy a peaceful setting on the lake with facilities designed to support collaboration and connection.
